Who was this woman, Veronica? How did she know our Lord and why was she moved to show such compassion? A tradition states that Saint Veronica was the woman whom Christ cured of the issue of blood…that woman who had suffered from hemorrhaging for 12 years, a condition that no natural doctor was able to cure. But the Divine Physician completely cured her when Veronica simply touched the hem of Christ’s garment. Veronica is also identified as King Herod the Great's niece. The Church celebrates the Feast of St. Veronica on July 12. No one is certain of what happened to Veronica in her later years, though one story has it that she cured the Roman Emperor, Tiberius, of a most serious illness using her iconic veil. Some sources say that she and her husband eventually travelled all the way to Southern France, joining Ss. Lazarus, Martha, and Mary Magdalene in confessing the Gospel. Now let us go forward in time and consider a special private revelation of our dearest Lord to a French Carmelite nun in the 19th century. Now private revelations are not additions to apostolic teachings - there are no new truths - rather private revelations are heaven-sent messages that promote devotions to help us live-out the unchanging Faith, including the receiving of warnings about future dangers to the Church Militant and to the world. Now, in the 1840s, a Carmelite nun named Sr. Marie de Sainte Pierre saw a vision of Veronica... St. Veronica from the stations of the Cross...wiping away the spit and mud from the face of Jesus with her veil on the way to Calvary. Sr. Marie de Sainte Pierre was then told that the sacrilegious and blasphemous acts committed in her day were adding to the spittle and mud that St. Veronica wiped away on Good Friday. Jesus told the good nun the He sought new Veronicas to wipe and venerate His Divine Face which has so few adorers.

On July 7, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI normalized the ancient rites of Mass and the Sacraments for all Latin Rite Catholics and priests. Gone were the days of prohibition…gone were the days of ghettoized pockets…gone were the days of indults and special permissions…the Old Mass, the Sacraments usus antiquior were back for they had never been abrogated. As Pope Benedict wrote: What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too, and it cannot be all of a sudden entirely forbidden or even considered harmful. It behooves all of us to preserve the riches which have developed in the Church's faith and prayer, and to give them their proper place. Traditional Catholics were given greater latitude…greater liberty to worship in the ways that the Church of Rome has always worshipped. Tradition began to grow…began to build…parishes… apostolates…chaplaincies…schools…retreats. Faithful and serious Catholics families and individuals seemed to be drawn more and more towards the Mass of our ancestors. But in the midst of all this growth…all the enthusiasm…resistance towards Tradition began to grow more and more. Some went so far as to suggest that the Traditional Catholic with his Traditional Liturgies was holding back the full expression of the recent Church council and the full flourishing of the Church. A new Roman Pontiff was on the throne of Peter and he clearly stated that the Old Rites were to be phased out…Latin Masses were to be eliminated one by one…all other Old Rite Sacraments were to be forbidden in most places…Traditional Catholics were to be denied, by enlarge, any parish life. All that had been built up had to be torn down, for we no longer pray like we used to pray.

Avoiding Babylon does not criticize the hierarchy or institutional Church, especially Pope Francis. We recognize there is an unprecedented crisis in the Church, but we feel that there are other shows that address these issues that are more qualified than us. Instead, we try to remind ourselves and those who enjoy the channel that being Catholic is a joyful and exciting experience. We seek true Catholic fraternity and eutrapelia with other Catholics who, like us, are doing their best to live out their vocation with the help of God’s Grace. Above all, we try to bring humor and joy to the craziness of this fallen world, for as Hillaire Belloc has famously said:

Avoiding Babylon was started during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. During these difficult and dark days, when most of us were isolated from family, friends, our parishes, and even the Sacraments themselves, this channel was started as a statement of standing against the tyrannical mandates that many of us were living under. Since those early days, this channel has morphed into an amazing community of friends…no…more than friends…Christian brothers and sisters…who have grown in joy and charity.
Avoiding Babylon does not criticize the hierarchy or institutional Church, especially Pope Francis. We recognize there is an unprecedented crisis in the Church, but we feel that there are other shows that address these issues that are more qualified than us. Instead, we try to remind ourselves and those who enjoy the channel that being Catholic is a joyful and exciting experience. We seek true Catholic fraternity and eutrapelia with other Catholics who, like us, are doing their best to live out their vocation with the help of God’s Grace. Above all, we try to bring humor and joy to the craziness of this fallen world, for as Hillaire Belloc has famously said:

The Fatima Center’s mission is to ensure that the entire Message of Fatima is fully and widely known, accurately understood, and properly acted upon so that Our Lady’s purpose in coming to Fatima – the salvation of souls and the prevention of catastrophic chastisements – may be realized.

The prayer dates back to the 8th century and confirms a longstanding devotion in Ireland to the Blessed Mother.
The Irish people are well known for their loving devotion of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is part of who they are. A discovery in the 19th century further confirmed the antiquity of this tradition.
In 1862 Eugene O’Curry, a professor from the Catholic University of Ireland (founded by Blessed John Henry Newman), saved from oblivion a litany to the Blessed Mother that dates back to the middle of the 8th century. The litany was even approved for private use by Pope Pius IX during that same year. It is likely that this litany was used at the monastery of Clonsast around the year 725 and was later translated into Latin.
