Perhaps the most beautiful Gregorian chant hymn of Lent, Vexilla Regis is sung during Passiontide and Holy Week and also on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. I had the privilege of singing and recording this hymn with the schola from the Seminary of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in Italy just weeks before the Vatican closed their thriving Seminary in 2013. This chant, and several others, can be found on my album Excitabo Auroram: https://fathermaxmusic.com/alb....um/1455516/excitabo-
[The album cover should say Ps. 56:1, not 65:1]
A song with a contemporary jazz feel and a Catholic message.

King David in Psalm 88 tells us that he will sing forever of the Lord's mercy. He has been so merciful to me, and now it is my joy to sing of His mercy and respond to it in my daily life with conversion of heart and to help others know how merciful He is to the repentant sinner.

A lighthearted song with a profound message: Sin enslaves us. It separates us from God. Only Jesus our Savior can set us free by forgiving us and granting us His love and grace. As St. Paul points out, now is the acceptable time, the time of my salvation - there may not be a tomorrow. Hence the call to penance and to proclaim Jesus is Lord (and not with empty words, but with conversion of heart).

Easy listening... Catholic style, with a fun animation video. My favorite words in this song are "When I lose all for You and You become my All, I find peace in Your will and grace to hear Your call."

Truth be told, I wrote this song in the wake of the Theodore McCarrick scandal. Indeed what does it profit a man to gain the whole world losing his soul in the process? Jesus, have mercy on us! Mother Mary, guide and protect us! St. Joseph, keep us strong in our Catholic Faith!

Pope St. Pius X: "To conclude this whole question of faith and its various branches, we have still to consider, Venerable Brethren, what the Modernists have to say about the development of the one and the other. First of all they lay down the general principle that in a living religion everything is subject to change, and must in fact be changed. In this way they pass to what is practically their principal doctrine, namely, evolution. To the laws of evolution everything is subject under penalty of death - dogma, Church, worship, the Books we revere as sacred, even faith itself." (Pascendi Dominici Gregis)

Lyrics...
The beauty of creation sings,
That God created everything.
Intelligence was behind the design;
Each thing created, according to its kind.
CHORUS
The negation of creation
Through the illusion of evolution,
Must stop… In the Name of God.
Must stop… In the Name of God.
Under the guise of empirical science,
Darwin hides anti-Christian bias.
But in the beginning, when God spoke,
Out of nothing all things He awoke.
CHORUS
“Molecules, then monkeys to man,”
The theory boasts against God’s plan.
But we are not a herd of cattle,
Children of God we are called to battle.
CHORUS
The wonder of creation conceals,
What God in Christ clearly reveals,
That we are His people, immortal each soul,
And only in Him can we reach our goal.
CHORUS
The beauty of creation sings,
That God created everything…

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI died this morning at 9:24am in Rome. May he, through the mercy of God rest in peace and may he pray for us, the pilgrim Church, as we make our way towards the finish line.

You came from afar for a census, they say,
With your virgin bride and a Child on the way.
To Bethlehem come, the “House of Bread,”
The City of David, but no room, no bed.
Sent to a cave, a stall for some beasts.
There you went to prepare the King’s feast.
Tell us dear Joseph, what did you see?
An ox, an ass, and a manger of feed.
CHORUS:
Jesus, Messiah, Emmanuel! Glory to the God of Israel!
Gloria in excelsis Deo, Gloria in altissimis,
Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis!
Tell us dear Joseph, how could this be?
That God sent His Son setting us free,
But no one would come, no one would care,
No one adore, no one be there?
Yet the birth of the Babe brings joy to the land.
The birth of the Savior, revealing God’s plan.
And Angels proclaim, they sing to the Lord.
Shepherds make haste, they come and adore.
CHORUS
He lay in a manger that holy night.
On Christmas Eve – all sorrows took flight.
And piercing the dark – a glowing new star!
And kings in wonder, they came from afar.
CHORUS

Lyrics...
I said, “Lord when will I have the faith,
To walk on water, to walk on water.”
He said, “Child what do you think you are doing now?
You walk on water. You’re walking on water…
CHORUS:
Whenever you choose to follow Me,
When you believe, oh, but you cannot see,
You walk by faith and not by sight, oh,
You walk on water. You’re walking on water.
You walk on water. You’re walking on water.
I said, “Lord, I believe help my unbelief,
And I’ll walk on water, yeah I’ll walk on water.
He said, “My child you must believe in Me,
And the One who sent Me, the One who sent Me…
CHORUS
So I begin to walk across that sea,
To walk on water, to walk on the water.
But storms, waves and winds they come at me,
And I sink in the water, oh no! I’m sinking in water…
I said, “Lord, my Lord please save me.
I’m sinking in the water, sinking in water!”
He said, “Child never doubt. You can trust in Me,
And you’ll walk on water. You’re walking on water…
CHORUS

Psalm 99 (100) says that we must "serve the Lord in gladness" (Servite Domino in laetitia). This video was created by Opus Joyous Studios (opusjoyous.com) during the period when I was building a new Hermitage with the help of friends and benefactors. Both the song and the animation will bring joy and a smile.

This short reflection on purity of heart was posted on my Instagram account as a prelude to the song "Blessed Are the Pure of Heart". The reflection was so popular on Instagram that I thought I'd post it here as well. Jesus tells us that a condition for seeing God (for Heaven) is purity of heart - we need purity of heart! This message is SO important today with the moral plague of internet pornography, sex trafficking, gender confusion and sexual perversion.

In Italy in 2013, just before leaving the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, I had the privilege of singing and recording Franck's "Panis Angelicus" with Ensemble Mariposas and the Basilica Choir of San Nicola of Tolentino. This track is found on my album "Excitabo Auroram".
