Holy scripture is filled with overflowing praise for wisdom. Not the wisdom of the world, but the wisdom that consists in choosing the best means and acting in accordance in order to arrive at our ultimate end, eternal life. More precious than all riches: and all the things that are desired are not to be compared with her (Proverbs 3:15). And, again Get wisdom, because it is better than gold (Proverbs 16:16). Possibly the only course ever dedicated to the subject of sapientia, Brother Francis six classes examine both natural and supernatural wisdom in the light of the inspired word of God. Wisdom is the highest value, one to which our speaker has dedicated his whole life. Father Leonard Feeney gave Brother Francis the assignment in the early 1940s to teach wisdom. He has never wavered in fulfilling that mandate. The lessons covered with such grace in these six lectures — the fruit of over forty years of meditation — are a delight to savor. Most importantly, they serve as an inspiration to imitate the saints, the wisest and happiest of all who have walked this earth.

25 The other disciples therefore said to him: We have seen the Lord. But he said to them: Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.
Dixerunt ergo ei alii discipuli : Vidimus Dominum. Ille autem dixit eis : Nisi videro in manibus ejus fixuram clavorum, et mittam digitum meum in locum clavorum, et mittam manum meam in latus ejus, non credam.
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said: Peace be to you.
Et post dies octo, iterum erant discipuli ejus intus, et Thomas cum eis. Venit Jesus januis clausis, et stetit in medio, et dixit : Pax vobis.
27 Then he saith to Thomas: Put in thy finger hither, and see my hands; and bring hither thy hand, and put it into my side; and be not faithless, but believing.
Deinde dicit Thomae : Infer digitum tuum huc, et vide manus meas, et affer manum tuam, et mitte in latus meum : et noli esse incredulus, sed fidelis.
28 Thomas answered, and said to him: My Lord, and my God.
Respondit Thomas, et dixit ei : Dominus meus et Deus meus.
29 Jesus saith to him: Because thou hast seen me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed.
Dixit ei Jesus : Quia vidisti me, Thoma, credidisti : beati qui non viderunt, et crediderunt.

The two ecclesiastical vocations, priesthood and religious life, are both examined in this second lecture. The religious vocation is, of course, a higher state of life than the married or single state. The reasons why are precisely spelled out by our speaker. The consecrated life, given to the exercise of the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience, is the "better part," which Our Lord reserved for the contemplative Mary; while the good part, although less than "the better," is exemplified in her busy sister, Martha. The Apostles were called personally by Our Lord; however, that was unique to them. All other religious vocations involve a general call. It is God's Plan A for him or her. If one does not respond cheerfully, or procrastinates, the "called" can lose this grace. There are only so many "mañanas" that God will tolerate. Our speaker stresses the importance for anyone who is considering a religious vocation to seek advice from a wise counselor and to make a retreat in order to discern better the inspiration's source. Lastly, our speaker moves on with profound and sobering reflections on the duties of religious and priests, especially the divine duties of the alter-Christus, before eloquently extolling the dignity of the consecrated life and Christ's promise of the hundredfold reward in this life and eternal life in the next for those who persevere.
