Pope Francis Meets Clinton - Vatican Appointment a Disaster - Theology of the Magisterium Unlisted
Catholic Drive Time - 877-757-9424
Date – Thursday, July 6th, 2023 – St. Maria Goretti
Maria was born October 16, 1890 in Corinaldo, Italy, near Ancona to Luigi Goretti and Assunta Carlini. In 1896, her father, a farmer, moved the family to Ferriere di Conco, near Anzio. Soon afterward, he died, and the family was forced to move to the Serenelli farm to survive.
On July 6, 1902, 11-year-old Maria was stabbed to death by Alessandro Serenelli, the son of her father’s partner, while resisting his attempt to rape her. She was canonized in 1950 by Pius XII. Through her intercession, her murderer converted and became a penitent Franciscan brother.
St. Maria Goretti, a remarkable saint, offers us profound lessons on purity. Despite facing a brutal assault, she courageously sacrificed her life to protect her chastity. Today, we find ourselves in a world where immodesty and indecency are embraced, as by the introduction of scandalous bathing suits.
It's disheartening to witness the indifference of many Catholics who have gradually accepted the moral decay of societal norms. However, St. Maria Goretti's unwavering adherence to the Church's teachings on purity serves as a powerful reminder. She exemplifies the Catholic ideal of valuing purity above all else, even to the point of sacrificing her life. The preservation of purity is paramount for a harmonious social order and the stability of the family.
Let us implore St. Maria Goretti to be our patron in the defense of purity and to guide us in preserving this virtue in our lives. If we should stray from this path, we must turn to her for inspiration, seeking genuine contrition and repentance. In a world that disregards modesty, let us look to St. Maria Goretti's shining example and strive to uphold the principles of purity in our thoughts, words, and actions.
St. Maria Goretti, pray for us!
