St. Monica ( Feast Day: May 4): Piety, Detachment & Determination
On this Mother's Day, we can reflect on the life of St. Monica, the patroness of Mothers. She is the patroness of mothers not only because she gave birth to the body of the great St. Augustine, but also because through her good works and many tears was instrumental in bringing forth his soul in grace at his re-birth in the waters of baptism. She accomplished the first task within a year (9 months) while the latter took her 30 years. She did this by deepening her piety, detaching from all things of this world (including her own son whom she loved so much), and remaining always determined. PIETY, DETACHMENT and DETERMINATION in this patroness of mothers gave us the greatest of the Fathers of the Church and the Doctor of Grace.
