Prayer Must be Theocentric
Today's gospel of the ten lepers provides us with two powerful images of the theocentricism of prayer and of the four kinds of prayer: adoration, thanksgiving, satisfaction for sin, and supplication. It is on account of the nature of God that there are specifically these four kinds of prayers. An awareness and focus on God in our prayer will be our biggest aid in praying as we ought, with a pure and efficacious prayer. A holy Carmelite monk wisely advised that we should hold ourselves in prayer before God like a dumb or paralyzed beggar at a rich man's gate.
