Bishop Burns was ordained to the priesthood with the Diocese of Pittsburgh on June 25, 1983. Next, he was ordained a Bishop and installed in the Diocese of Juneau, Alaska, in 2009. The Diocese of Dallas was then blessed when the Most Reverend Edward J. Burns was installed as the eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas in 2017.
