Eternal Life Preserver: State of Grace
1st Sunday of Advent: We are living in a time in which the zealous priest, parent and teacher resemble the heroic Fr. Thomas Conway and Marine Captain Edward Parke. These men swam nearly continuously for a number of days seeking to preserve as many of the USS Indianapolis shipwrecked sailors as possible. This huge ship went down very quickly in late July of 1945, leaving most of the survivors to float on the open ocean for four days before being rescued. Of the 900 that escaped the ship alive, only 316 sailors lived, thanks in a large part to the efforts of these two men, who died of exhaustion in their efforts. The navy men were harassed by sharks, extreme thirst in an ocean full of toxic water, and easily gave way to hallucinations leading them to take off their lifejackets. Today, the sharks (i.e., devils) tempt us to drink deeply of the waters (i.e., the alluring draughts of electronic media flowing from the movies, internet, radio, etc... Often filled with lies, heresy, and lust-filled images) and give us many imaginings that all is well below the surface. Thus, many are tempted to drink or even take off their eternal life preserving garment (i.e., baptismal robe... being in a state of grace) to check things out. Yet, the only way to look up and lift up our heads—as Our Lord commands us to do in the Gospel as we await His Second Coming—is it to be always in a state of grace. The zealous priest, parent and teacher work hard, even unto wearing themselves out, ever trying to convince those under their care not to drink... and to keep on their eternal life preserving jackets. Let us be numbered among these good souls. For more please visit http://www.reginaprophetarum.org & remember to say 3 Hail Marys for the priest
