⁣In this episode of Ecu-Menical we will talk about 3 habits that started up in the Novus Ordo circles that are neither prescribed by any official formula or allowed in any traditional practices of the laity. The ancient liturgical rites (including the Eastern Rites) do not see this type of behavior. Learning allows us to be closer to Jesus Christ and get the most of out the mass as He intends.

Thanks for listening!

To keep my pose during Mass correct, I follow the pose of the Deacon, who has his hands in prayer and not outstretched.
I have a question: I notice some make the sign of the cross during the "May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life." Is that correct or no? We sit and listen to the readings. What is the correct pose to listen to the gospel? (besides standing.)

At least historically, just keeping our hands folded as the servers do is most proper for laity. Our hands together in submission to our Lord so that the Master could place his hands over ours.

For reference: http://www.trivia-library.com/....a/why-does-a-person- -- The joining of hands "leads back to men's early desire to subjugate each other and developed out of the shackling of hands of prisoners! "Though the handcuffs eventually disappeared, the joining of hands remained as a symbol of man's servitude and submission and his inability (or even lack of inclination) to grasp a weapon." Christianity adopted "the gesture representing shackled hands as a sign of man's total obedience to divine power."
