⁣For the Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome As Catholics, just as the Bible is our book, and was the canon of Scripture was decided on by the Catholic Church and the Holy Spirit, so too, devotion to the Mother of God is not really an option, and was simply assumed in the early Church, and even up until quite recently. The Protestant Revolution happened after 1500+ years of consistent, stable teaching and practice in regard to devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We have no reason to be on the defensive in regard to our reverence for and devotion to Our Lady. Not having a devotion to her is the anomaly. Living in the Bible Belt, it is easy to feel like we are on the defensive, but all we have to do is look at history, and Christianity in the world today to see that devotion to Mary was and is the norm, or 'default' position for a Christian.
