⁣This Ave Verum, with its harmony and rhythm, comes from a 14th century codex. The text is sometimes attributed to Pope Innocent (III, IV, V, or VI) and has ever since been a favorite of Eucharist adoration. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I adore Thee in the most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar.

English translation:
Hail, true Body, born
of the Virgin Mary,
having truly suffered, immolated
on the cross for mankind,
from whose pierced side
water and blood flowed:
Be for us a foretaste [of the Heavenly banquet]
in the trial of death!

O sweet Jesus, O holy Jesus,
O Jesus, son of Mary,
[have mercy on me]. Amen.

Latin Text:
Ave verum corpus, natum
de Maria Virgine,
vere passum, immolatum
in cruce pro homine
cuius latus perforatum
fluxit aqua et sanguine:
esto nobis prægustatum
in mortis examine.

O Iesu dulcis, O Iesu pie,
O Iesu, fili Mariae.
[Miserere mei.] Amen.
