This is a VLX interlude where we look at the differences between formal vs. dynamic translations in the Bible-translation world. We then evaluate the pros and cons of four different Bible translations:1) Douay–Rheims Bible; 2) English Standard Version Catholic Edition; 3) New International Version; 4) the New American Bible.

Mt 9:14-17. Is fasting just something for the Old Testament folks?
Mt 9:9-13
Newcomers and old-tymers can review the prayer methods of St. Bruno and St. Teresa of Avila as a mid-point study-session in our mental prayer series on St. Matthew’s Gospel. I discuss also why we rely so heavily upon the Church Fathers via Fr. Lapide SJ in this VLX series.

This is a live meditation I gave 10 years ago during the first year of my priesthood serving the students of the University of Colorado. I have now recycled it into a VLX podcast for your own meditation from home or on-the-go.
St. Matthew 8:14-17. Jesus heals the Mother in Law of St. Peter. Jesus "ejects" many demons from people.
In Mt 8:5-13 today, we see that to be a true leader, one must be a real follower—a follower of Christ.
TS 12:05. Matthew 8:1-4. What is unique about the request of this leper before Christ heals him?
TS 9:19. Morons building a home on the Rock while surrounded by rising rivers. CORRECTION: The Greek ἀνδρὶ μωρῷ (andri moro) is the *singular* dative for foolish-man, not the *plural* dative for foolish-men as I had said in the video. I caught this error after uploading and before production. Sorry about that.
"Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.”
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves."
TS 6:57. The Golden Rule and the Narrow Path.
TS 13:39. “Which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
TS 9:26. "Judge not, that you be not judged."
“Do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
TS 8:27. "Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
TS 12:25. The eye is the lamp of the body.
TS 4:15 The Greek for "Treasure" and "Heart," as well as a meditation on heaven and merit.
